Hazardous Wake Detector (LoRaWAN)
Overview
CCSB-mounted hazardous wake detector combining capacitive wave staff and pressure sensors to classify wake height/period and flag hazardous events. Designed to notify marinas, municipalities, or boaters via LoRaWAN backhaul.
Status
- Wave staff prototype validated on bench (RG404 coaxial capacitor method).
- WisBlock stack identified for LoRaWAN; firmware signal chain outlined.
- Next: canal test with CCSB small mast; threshold tuning & ROC analysis.
Tech Snapshot
- Sensors: capacitive wave staff (RG404), pressure transducers, temp
- Compute: RAK WisBlock or Teensy 4.1 variant
- Backhaul: LoRaWAN ? gateway ? server; optional cellular
- Outputs: event packets with height, period, confidence
